It's Summer Vacation

I have now been off of school for 2 full weeks and have been busy sewing.  I have been working on a hexi project for the last couple of months and I have two diamonds completed and one more that is almost finished.  I never thought I liked hand sewing, especially applique but I have been enjoying making hexis.  I think the entire quilt takes 3300 hexis so this will be many years in the making I'm sure.  Here are my first two diamonds.

I am also 2/3rds of the way done with Zach's NC house quilt.  I love this Swoon pattern and think it will be one I make again.  My goal is to get this quilt finished in time to take it down come August.

I've also finished my Craftsy block of the month June blocks.  Continuing with my bright colors on these two.

And finally, it hit me this morning that my 4 sisters in laws are always giving me presents when we are home for our annual summer vacation and this year I didn't want to come to the family gathering empty handed.  So a quick search on the internet found me a video tutorial on picnic placemats.  I went through my abundant fabric stash and was able to find prints for everyone.  I found that 1 yard of fabric made 6 placemats and I also had lots of batting remnants so without going to the store I was able to get started.  Today I finished two sets of 6 and have 2 left for tomorrow.

Through an online discussion I discovered the quilt called Swoon.  I have two of nine blocks completed and have been having so much fun with this quilt I'll probably make another one someday.  For now this quilt will go on the bed in Zach's North Carolina bedroom.

The stripe through me a bit but that is the fabric that Zach's valance is made of so I really wanted to use it in one block.

Latest Projects

My paperweight quilt is finished and is now adorning one of the beds in Spencer's North Carolina bedroom.  I'm really pleased with out it turned out.

I've also worked on the April and May Craftsy block of the month quilt blocks and have even decided that English paper piecing isn't too hard to do.  I love the bright colors I've chosen for these blocks.  Bright just seems to be my favorite these days.

Quilting continues to get me through a crazy school year, looking forward to summer when I can sew more often.

Back to Basics

I started this blog primarily to connect with other quilters and to show some of the work I've done; however I went from part time teaching to full time teaching and my boys continue to grow and stay busy so quilting got put on the back burner.  I've adjusted to the full time schedule, the boys are becoming so grown up and work has been very stressful lately that I recently have come back to my quilting.  I especially enjoy spending my weekends working on a project because quilting helps me not to think of school.  I love my kinders but definitely have a challenging this year so when I quilt that's all I can focus on for a little while.  I have a few projects that I'm working on.  The first is I'm finally finishing my Paperweight quilt that I started 4 years ago.
I'm also working on the block of the month.  I have January and February blocks done so I'm just waiting for March to get here.
And I'm also working on a Leader's and Enders bow tie quilt.  I have 100 blocks finished but need several hundred more before it will go on Spencer's bed in North Carolina.
